I was so worried about what on earth to do with James while all of this was going on. The first day my Relief Society president was kind enough to let me hang out for several hours at her place (thanks Judy!) so we could have some quiet and privacy for nursing and napping, etc. Then on moving day we just tried to stay out of the way as much as possible and drove around for a while during his nap, but in the end it went very smooth and he was such a trooper.
Our drive took three days. Traveling is slow with a little one, especially becauase Dan and I are both sticklers about his bedtime routine. So we left as soon as we could after James woke up in the morning and drove until about 6:00pm each day. In the old days Dan and I could have made MUCH better time! But we had plenty of time to spare so it was nice to take it easy.
James did so much better on the car ride than I would have expected. He definitely had a thing against his carseat for a couple of weeks after the trip and subsequent apartment searching, but all in all it turned out all right. I am no longer scared to go on a road trip with an infant.
Once we got here we spent a week in an extended stay hotel while Dan started at the office and we settled on an apartment. We feel so lucky to have found one that is so close to work for Dan. It's not in a bad location as far as I'm concerned either. There are 4 Target stores within 4-5 miles in different directions, two of which are Super (not a Wal-Mart to be seen, which was odd at first but I now understand that I am in Target country). Other plusses include a library, bank, fruit stand, and post office within walking distance and easy access to most of the major highways to get all around the city. Anyhoo, we are getting settled nicely and as soon as I get the apartment put together I'll post pictures of it for those who are intersted.
