We planted a garden along with the help of some friends this summer (thanks Thompsons, Arnolds and Trina) and decided we ought to document this thing that took so much time and effort. It was a learning experience, but we enjoyed the fruits of our labors.
And here we have farmer Dan, in front of his 9' stalks of corn. Yeah, they're really that big.
Here's a good view of the front half of the garden (peas, beans, squash, cucumbers, lettuce...)
These are our tomatoes (that got huge and have tons of fruit that won't turn red, grrr) and peppers, our jalapenos have been particularly busy. The corn rows are behind the tomatoes.
And behind the corn we have PUMPKINS! The big one is probably about 30 lbs.
We had a volunteer Little-Jack pumpkin plant pop up in the lettuce patch, go figure. It's probably got 50+ little guys on it and it's still going.
Our zuchini was true to it's reputation and produced more than we could possibly use on our own, and the yellow squash put forth a valiant effort, but a good portion of those went to the slugs...
...Yeah, they're gross.
Dan and I went out to Tolmie State park one evening for a picnic and a walk on the water front (which smelled HORRIBLE and I couldn't stay there very long). We hiked a little and this is a picture of me taking a rest from my huffing and puffing up the hill.
We celebrated our 4th anniversary last week by going up to Seattle to see Wicked. It was AMAZING! What a great production. We walked around downtown by the theater and found a nice itallian place to have dinner. We had a great day!
And last but not least, tomorrow is the ultrasound so I'll be posting the findings from that shortly!
Thats not in your backyard is it? That is crazy big! How fun to have your own vegetable garden... I would even argue to call it a veggie farm! I was thinking a lot about you this week... good luck with the ultra sound, can't wait to hear about it! Love you guys!
ReplyDeleteHaha! No, we live in an apartment. A great family in our ward is letting us use thier ground and they share the garden with us and a couple other families (hence the masiveness).
ReplyDeleteIt's been so fun 'gardening' with you guys this year! It IS a big garden! We miss being right across the parking lot from you (but loving our new place). Congratulations on your Anniversary! And, we're waiting to hear about your ultrasound, too! We are SOOOO excited for you!!
